Tell Us About Yourself & Your Company

For as long as he can remember, Jose Manuel Da Silva Lobo has been inspired by his inner silence to create water features within fountains. At just 16, he took his love of water features and combined it with his hobby of doing lavish Christmas lights and decorations, melding it all into a small business that quickly grew. His projects included decorating the biggest and most beautiful trees across his home island of Curaçao as well as residential houses and commercial buildings. Today, as CEO & GM of Universal Seven Elements Global, he provides customers in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe Counties with gorgeous and relaxing pond designs, lake aeration systems, landscape LED lighting, as well as rental services and equipment for parties and events.

The Interview

  • How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

    Our landscaping lighting business was inspired when we wanted to make our water features, pondless waterfalls and fish-ponds designs pop.

  • What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping…)?

    30/40% is with landscaping lighting, with the rest focusing on water features, pondless waterfalls, hand made fish-ponds, colored submergible LED lights for existing water features and ponds.

  • How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

    We have been installing landscape lighting for 18 years.

  • What AMP products do you prefer to use?

    The AMP products we used are typically based on the clients specific needs. Our favorite fixtures are the AMP® ONE G2 ControlPro™ Spotlights series, the AMP® Path & Area Light series, the AMP® Soft-Wash LED Hardscape Lights, and the AMP® StoutPro PAR36 G2 Flood Lights are the most popular fixtures that we have installed.

  • What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

    We have learned a lot about low voltage cable and how to properly burry and strip the cable based on the amount of fixtures being used.

  • How do you find your customers?

    98% of our customers are referrals from our previous landscaping lighting clients.

  • What is your sales process?

    We present a complete and detailed proposal with colored layout showing position side light feature, cable and transformers location.

  • Do you use sales tools such as a free demo?

    Indeed, we do a complete side night demo so the client can see how the illumination will look on the highlights of the trees, evergreens shrubs and building fronts/façades.

  • Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

    By going to the clients location site and visualized the illumination and eye catch needs based on the dark spots in various angles. I like to visit the home at the early stages of sunset through dark to identify how I will illuminate their property.

  • What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

    After installation I meet with the homeowners to “reveal” their lighting system. I enjoy the clients first “Waoow" by seeing the illumination of their landscaping and building features!

  • Tell us a little bit about you personally: What do you like to do outside of work? What are your hobbies?

    My hobbies include art/painting, transcendental meditation, working with nature conservation programs, traveling, photography, tennis, scuba diving…and designing dream outdoor spaces!
