October 2022 Contractor of the Month is: Nightbloom Landscape Lighting

Can you tell us about your business?

Nightbloom is a family run business. Started in the landscape business and by request of a client fell into lighting. That first job was enlightening. The appeal of a well lit landscape was inspiring. From there, our focus began to change and moved in the lighting direction.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

I got into the landscape lighting business on accident, when one of my landscape clients asked if I could install some lighting for them, since then I have never looked back.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

Today, about 90% of our business is landscape lighting.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

I have been installing landscape lighting for about 15 years since I did my first install.

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

For turtle safe lighting, any of the Path Lights , and the AMP® PinnaclePro MR16 Spotlight (Lamp-Ready).The quality of these fixtures allows for beach front usage. For architectural detail we like the AMP® ONE G2 ControlPro 300 LED Spotlight. The AMP® ONE G2 ControlPro 800 LED Spotlight are great for trees and palms and our new favorite are the new AMP® ONE RBGW G2 ControlPro 800 LED Spotlight.

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

Understanding what the client envisions and what his expectations are is really important. Good communication, photos of similar lighting situations and demos are all good tools for this.

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo?

We have been fortunate to rely on the good word of our clients for the growth we've had. Our commitment to clients is not just for the design and install, it's also about maintenance and repair service when needed.

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

My inspiration comes from each house or area to be lit. Grand entrances deserve grand lighting. A quiet spot on the garden likes a more subdued light. It’s all about creating scenes. Some houses have amazing architectural detail that comes alive with the proper lighting.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

The best is when the customer says thank you and that they love the way it looks. Nothing beats that.

When I am not working and installing landscape lighting, I like to travel and spend time at the beach.
