Call UsK&M Campbell & Co.,LLC started out as a general lawn care and property management business offering 12 months of service on residential and commercial properties. In the last 2 years, we have expanded into full landscaping and landscape lighting.
I have always been a light fanatic going back to the age of 4 on the roof with my dad putting up Christmas lights every year. I guess you could say I have always had a little “Clark W. Griswold” in me.
Can you tell us about your business?
My business “K&M Campbell & Co.,LLC” started out as a general lawn care and property management business offering 12 months of service on residential and commercial properties. In the last 2 years we have expanded into full landscaping and landscape lighting.
How did you get into the landscape lighting business?
It all really just fell into my lap due to a customer requesting his home to be more prominent from the road. I have always been a light fanatic going back to the age of 4 on the roof with my dad putting up Christmas lights every year. I guess you could say I have always had a little “Clark W. Griswold” in me.
What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?
Right now about 30% of my business is Landscape Lighting and 70% is lawn and property maintenance and landscaping. We currently offer weekly lawn and landscape maintenance and care as well as full lighting installs, repairs, and upgrades to existing systems.
How long have you been installing landscape lighting?
I’ve been installing landscape lighting for almost 7 months.
What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?
I really enjoy the G2 AggregatePro spotlights and the MagnumPro™ Path & Area Light. I recently used the ONE G2 ControlPro spotlight for flexibility of the remote.
What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?
Always order extra. Try to give the client something they didn’t ask for or thought it might be to much or even out of the budget. So far that extra element has resulted in 100% satisfaction with my customers.
Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…
My customers have strictly been by word of mouth. I do plan on using social media more, and advertising. Most of my customers know that they want or need landscape lighting. I haven’t needed to do a demo, but I always offer one. Pictures from previous jobs and giving the new customers previous customers addresses to view other properties has also closed the deal.
Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?
I find most of my inspiration from the existing landscape, and the architecture of the home. My grandfather was an architect. When I was younger I dreamed to be one as well. I feel I have an eye for the design element.
What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?
Most would say the reaction of the customer about how beautiful their home is. To a point that does it for me, but also knowing that I did that with just trial and error. I’m just as amazed as they are.
Tell us a little bit about you personally: What do you like to do outside of work? What are your hobbies?
Outside of work I’m very family oriented. I have a little girl that keeps my wife and I pretty busy with competitive cheerleading. Softball season is among us and I’ve decided to help coach again this year. I have a little over 5 acres my home sits on that I like to improve in my spare time.
