February 2025 Contractor of the Month is: Jax Outdoor Solutions

Can you tell us about your business?

We start Light UP Jax and merged with Jax Outdoor Solutions. We started in 2021 as a landscape lighting Contractor and we now offer full outdoor living, patios, hardscapes but we specialize in Golf Greens and Artificial Turf.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

I started with holiday lighting and the business evolved into landscape lighting.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

We like to incorporate lighting into every outdoor package we sell. Most times the customer thanks us for working it into the outdoor spaces as they would not have thought of it originally. I would say a majority of our projects include some form of lighting.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

We started in 2021and have since then fell in love with it and continue lighting up our clients spaces!

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

ControlPro 300 G2 is my go to fixture, but the Micro Dot is my new favorite fixture!

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

Making sure to always have the correct voltage calculations using the Outdoor Lighting Calculator App to have a correctly installed system. Also I have really learned that less is more, not necessarily fixtures, but dimming light down and not having at full output.

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…

Marketing is our main focus this year, we have been assembling a team to focus on Golf Greens and hardscape for outdoor living, but most of our Landscape Lighting is word of mouth. We are fortunate to have customer who have appreciated us enough to keep us busy with lighting specifically by referring us.

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

I love the Facebook groups, I have learned a lot there and at the AMP Training center. I am really excited about the new Facebook Group Specifically for AMP Contractors.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

Whenever you turn that transformer on for the first time with a client on a walk through, their reaction can be priceless. I have actually had a customer cry on a walkthrough that I made custom fixtures in a special case scenario that she was turned down by every other contractor and we made it happen. That was a priceless experience for both the customer and myself.

Tell us a little bit about you personally: What do you like to do outside of work? What are your hobbies?

Our business has been booming! I have been working so much the hobbies have been pushed to the side. I spend my days off grilling and spending time with my family.
