Can you tell us about your business?

At Dores Tech we specialize in sound, lighting and home automation. Creating beautiful outdoor spaces that are dynamic and enjoyable.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

I got into lighting as a kid. My family had a cow farm where I worked during the day and after I clocked out of that I would help decorate weddings with my aunt. My Aunt taught me about lighting, fell in love and just took off with it.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

Lighting is around 70% of my business, the remainder of my business is audio and home integration.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

I have been installing for over 20 years but got really serious about 2-3 years ago.

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

I use a lot of the Eco Pro spots which gives me the flexibility to create the best possible designs.

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

I love using the HUB systems for my installations, they cost a little more but for a solid connection that you can trust, it’s the only way to go. I even use them for my audio systems!

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…

I have been very fortunate that a lot of my business comes from referrals. Its normally neighbors asking where they got their lighting done and they always point back to me!

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

It’s my desire to be creative, looking at my past designs and thinking of different ways to enhance my style. Looking at photos and others work helps give me inspiration to create more unique designs.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

The most rewarding part of any lighting project is when we get to turn the lights on for the first time and see the excitement on the client's face. The look of awe and appreciation for how we have changed their home and spaces hits the spot every time.

Tell us a little bit about you personally: What do you like to do outside of work? What are your hobbies?

Relaxing and listening to music. Having a couple of drinks on the back patio enjoying my beautifully light home jamming out is how I like to spend my free time.
