June 2025 Contractor of the Month is: Epic Landscaping

Can you tell us about your business?

Epic Landscaping is a Fort Lauderdale–based, full-service outdoor firm. We handle design, installation, and maintenance of everything outside the walls—hardscape, softscape, irrigation, pump stations, and low-voltage LED lighting. Over the years we’ve grown from mowing a handful of lawns to running multiple specialized divisions, each led by subject-matter experts.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

Lighting began as an add-on for a few upscale landscape projects. After seeing the dramatic effect of uplighting palms at dusk, I dove into training, built a demo garden at our nursery, and made lighting a core offering.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

Lighting is about one-fifth of our operation. The balance comes from landscape construction & grading, irrigation and pump stations, plus specialty work like pergolas, holiday décor, and pressure cleaning.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

A little over nine years—long enough to refine our craft, but we still chase the latest tech.

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

1. Night-time mock-ups: temporary fixtures help clients visualize and lock in decisions. 2. 3D designs, planning is key. 3. Always sleeve under hardscape with 2-inch PVC so future add-ons are painless.

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…

Most leads come from our maintenance clients and GC/architect referrals, with social media demos topping up the funnel. We schedule a dusk walk-through, set up a free four-fixture demo, capture night shots, and send a proposal within 24 hours—valid for 30 days. The hands-on demo drives an 80 % close rate.

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

The South Florida landscape itself—moonlit banyans, Intracoastal reflections, Miami’s Art-Deco geometry—plus studying resort projects and designers like viscaya and other coastal properties.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

Hearing a client say, “Now we can enjoy our landscape at night.” Watching a property come alive the moment we flip the switch never gets old.

I’m a christian, family man who recharges outdoors—wake-boarding, boating, fishing, grilling for friends, and sketching new project ideas over a strong espresso. That's me!
