April 2026 Contractor of the Month is: Desert Outdoor Landscape Lighting

Can you tell us about your business?

At Desert Outdoor Lighting, we are a low-voltage landscape lighting and service company working with commercial and residential customers. We transform outdoor spaces into stunning nightscapes with our professional landscape lighting services! Serving Gilbert, Mesa, Queen Creek, San Tan Valley, and Gold Canyon, we specialize in creating beautiful, functional lighting designs that enhance the beauty and safety of your property.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

I worked for an irrigation company when I was 18 years old. During that time, the owner was slowly adding landscape lighting into his irrigation installs. He asked if I would like to take over and lead his landscape lighting division for him. After learning and growing the division, I decided it was time to start my own landscape lighting company in 2018.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

We do about 90% landscape lighting, and 10% electrical services.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

11 years strong.

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

We prefer to use ControlPro's, it speeds up the installation process and gives the customer more control over their whole system.

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

I have used a lot of different platforms to run renderings for design lately. My best one would be ChatGPT, AI has really helped push creativity and create efficiencies.

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…

For sales, we do a lot of online marketing, but 65% of our work is from referrals. We typically get recommended by contractors, builders, and property management companies.

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

I use Instagram and previous projects that I've completed.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

I would say it's turning a dark area into a beautiful usable area to really make the customers' property show its value.

I do a lot of hobbies, going between fishing, hiking, boating, and spending time with my four kids.
