November 2025 Contractor of the Month is: Banyan Landscaping

Can you tell us about your business?

Banyan Landscaping is a full design and build company that does anything from softscapes and maintenance to hardscape outdoor living areas.

How did you get into the landscape lighting business?

I started the company during covid; we lost our airport transportation company and started this. I have a construction background prior to the transportation company, where I built new backyard spaces from the ground up. I started doing lawncare on my own and started getting request from there. We have stopped doing as much lawncare and moved more into design and build.

What percentage of your business is landscape lighting/what other services do you provide (ie: landscaping, irrigation, electrical…)?

30% of our business is landscape lighting. 10% of our business was landscape lighting in the beginning of the year, we would add lighting here and there on jobs, but what got me excited about landscape lighting was doing a repair on a job. We went to replace the fixtures, they were originally Volt, but then one of the AMP reps reached out to get me signed up with an account. After being taken back by how easy it is to install, I have been adding lighting to every job since. We offer all landscape services from maintenance to design and building outdoor living areas.

How long have you been installing landscape lighting?

About a year and a half.

What AMP products do you prefer to use? Which fixtures are your favorite?

The ControlPro RGBCW fixture is my favorite. I have been including them on every job. I am looking forward to the new AMP iQ system! My customers are going to love the smart controls.

What tips or tricks have you learned that have benefited your work from a design/installation perspective?

Micro dots have taken my project to the next level! If you want a project that is going to stand out, this is the way.

Tell me about your sales process. How do you find your customers? What is your sales process? Do you use sales tools such as a free demo…

We run 100% off referrals. We do lots of work with pool builders, along with homeowners, so we have a good mix that keeps us very busy. I show them the quality of the fixtures from the AMP Sales Kit I got at the training, but I tell them to feel it and mostly describe the end results with pictures and let my past work do the selling.

Where do you find inspiration for your lighting designs?

Before the AMP training I was just lighting pathways and palm trees. Now I have been lighting homes. This has not only made my hardscape projects look better but created an entire environment around the whole property.

What do you feel is the most personally rewarding part of installing a lighting system for a client?

When your customer calls you at 8pm and because they are so taken away of how great it looks the first night it turns on. It is the best feeling.

Tell us a little bit about you personally: What do you like to do outside of work? What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my kids, they are all involved in sports so that takes up a bunch of time. Right now, I am building a batting cage in my back yard for my son Cody. Doing projects like this and being involved in their softball and baseball is why I work so hard.
